On September 9 and 10, 2025, our colleague Christoph had the pleasure of traveling from Hagenberg to Seattle to support the fifth edition of the “Workshop on Camera Traps, AI, and Ecology,” which took place at the Allen Institute for AI (Ai2). After last year’s edition at the Hagenberg Campus of the University of Applied Sciences Upper Austria, this year’s event took place on the other side of the globe – and was a complete success. Christoph joined the local organizing team and helped them ensure that the hybrid event ran smoothly. Christoph also gave a presentation in which he presented his current research on drone-based wildlife observation in forest habitats. His work focuses on AI-supported detection and tracking algorithms designed to overcome challenges such as poor visibility under dense tree canopies and the need for reliable identification of animals in complex environments.
